ownCloud – Cloud Storage Accounts

ownCloud logoownCloud accounts now available

ownCloud provides universal access to your files via the web, your computer or your mobile devices — wherever you are.

It provides a platform to easily view & sync your contacts, calendars and bookmarks and files across all your devices.

ownCloud is an Open Source web application that provides you and your business with all the functions you’re used to from a service like Dropbox/Drive/SkyDrive with one noticeable difference – the data you store in it is on a server you either run internally or own on the Internet.

A Simple Yet Powerful System

At first glance, ownCloud looks fairly simplistic – as it runs on a web server and you first start using it via your web browser.

Don’t let this fool you though, ownCloud has a plenty of features which come in in the form of ownCloud Apps.

There are a number of pre-configured Apps in an ownCloud installation, including Contacts (which can sync to Android/iOS devices), a Calendar (syncing to Android/iOS devices), a Media section (allows you to play music files directly from the web interface) as well as photo’s and images.

User Accounts, Groups & Sharing – Multi-user as standard !

ownCloud is a multi-user application.    You can create groups that users can belong to, and these users can then control sharing options in their ownCloud account with either individual users or entire groups.

Sharing files or folders gives your users the ability to set an expiry date for the share as well as  and controlling if the user/group is able to write to the shared file or folder.

Client software for desktop and mobile devices.

ownCloud has a free desktop client for Windows, OS X and Linux that works exactly like the clients for many cloud storage services – you install it, point it at the address of your ownCloud installation, log in and it will synchronise your storage with a folder on your computer.

Clients are also available iOS and Android devices (this may cost you a small fee), which give you access to your ownCloud data whilst you are on the move.

You want more ?

If you want to include more Apps for your ownCloud installation, there is an online directory of ownCloud Applications that include:

  • ownCloud integration with popular third-party webmail client Roundcube
  • integration with WordPress installations (for both authentication and the WordPress media library)
  • use your ownCloud as a Firefox Sync facility to share logins, bookmarks etc between devices
  • plus many more…

Add ownCloud to your existing web hosting

If you already have your web hosting with us, we can install ownCloud on the same server that currently runs your public website, under a separate sub-domain, i.e cloud.yourdomain.com

Ideally you will need an SSL certificate for your ownCloud installation (which is to secure the link between your client software  and the server),  if you do not already have an SSL certificate, we can arrange one for you (there will be a charge).

Just run your ownCloud,  standalone mode.

If you don’t have a requirement for a website, but would like to setup cloud storage for your/your company we can do this for you.  You will need a domain for your “cloud” which we can help arrange.

Ideally you will need an SSL certificate for your ownCloud installation (this is to secure the communications link between your clients and the server), if you do not already have an SSL certificate, we can arrange one for you (there will be a charge).
